iPod Jukebox, Washington's original bring-you-own-MP3-player event, is celebrating its fifth anniversary at Cafe Saint-Ex on June 10, 2009.
From the pages of the Washington Post and USA Today to National Public Radio and even German television, it's been an interesting and eventful five years. We're thankful to everyone who's brought their iPod, Zune, BlackBerry, Zen or iRiver and shared their music with us, and we'd also like to thank the folks who've just showed up to listen and hang out. And, of course, our bartenders.
For our anniversary party, we're trying to set up some drink specials and surprises. But everything else remains as it set it out five years ago:
"On the second Wednesday of each month, The Cricklewood Massive presents "iPod Jukebox," an open-decks DJ night that replaces the turntables with portable MP3 players. No vinyl. No CDs. No kidding.
"The format is simple: Aspiring MP3Js sign up for a timeslot. When it's their turn, they plug their iPod (or other portable MP3 device) into the bar's sound system and play whatever they want for 12 minutes. Participants need to bring their own music, as a "house" iPod is not available. This is intended to be a night where everyone can show off their favorite gems from their own record collection."
We'll see you there.
