The Summer Sessions Celebration will take place Saturday, August 27, 2011 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 pm in Danforth Lecture Hall, Aron Art Center.
Come hear Dr. Bert Gordon, Professor of History at Mills College, talk about the dynamic history of the College during the period of the Summer Sessions during World War II. Reception to follow in the Art Museum.
Presented in conjunction with the current exhibition The Summer Sessions 1933-1952: Visiting Artists at the Mills College Art Museum. From 1933 to 1952, under the direction of Alfred Neumeyer, the Mills College Art Museum hosted an internationally recoginzed group of avant-garde artists as part of the Summer Session program, including Alexander Archipenko, Lyonel Feininger, Fernand Leger, Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, and Max Beckmann.
Featuring works from the Art Museum's permanent collection and archive, the exhibition documents an extraordinary chapter in the history of the Mills College Art Museum
