Through brief lectures, in-depth demonstrations and hands-on shooting experience, students will learn the techniques and skills required to work with large format cameras. We will explore how camera movements can be used for perspective control, how to focus the view camera and how to meter for accurate exposures. Students will be encouraged to think about ways they can use these techniques to advance their individual aesthetic and conceptual goals.
We will discuss practical matters that arise when using the view camera in real-world situations such as transportation and storage of equipment, camera and lens choices and how to manage working with sheet film. In the darkroom we will process our large format film and produce silver contact prints and enlargements from our negatives.
