Recent scientific studies have shown that meditation can help reduce stress, lower blood pressure, slow the aging process, and relieve
physical pain. In meditation we learn how to calmly abide: we learn how to be open and at ease with the unfolding conditions of life.
On the surface, meditation can appear to be a simple activity. In practice, however, thoughts can race, daydreams flourish, and muscles
get tight. To address these issues, members of the Northfield Buddhist Meditation Center offer an informal orientation to the practice of
Buddhist meditation. We will cover some of the basics of meditation, such as traditional postures and common methods used to focus the mind.
The orientation is open to anyone who is interested in learning about
Buddhist meditation. No experience in meditation is required. For more information, go to the NBMC Web site at www.northfieldbuddhists.org.
