The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum introduces the new guided tour “Pacific War: USS Intrepid in WWII” that will run every Saturday and Sunday from 10:40 AM –12:20 PM aboard the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, located at Pier 86 (46th Street and 12th Avenue), Manhattan.
The 100-minute tour tells the story of the USS Intrepid and her men during World War II. From 1943 to 1945, the Intrepid participated in the greatest naval campaign in world history. Armed with state of the art planes and crewed by over 3,000 sailors, the “Fighting I” won hard-fought victories against Imperial Japan in the Pacific Theater. From the raid on Truk Atoll and the Battle of Leyte Gulf to the invasion of Okinawa, the accomplishments of the ship and the men who served aboard transformed the names of little known Pacific islands into symbols of American courage and sacrifice.
Tours are $44 for adults; $33 for youths (ages 7-17). Prices include general admission to the museum. Tours are most appropriate for ages 10 and up. Advance reservations are recommended and can be made at http://www.intrepidmuseum.org/The-Intrepid-Experience/Guided-Tours.aspx.
