The exploration of Verdi operas featured in the Metropolitan Opera’s spring season continues. By examining these librettos, we delve into Italy’s politics as it grappled with unification, and we assess Verdi’s experiences as composer, patriot, statesman, and humanist. On hand are three guests who have interpreted the great composer’s musical and intellectual wishes in their distinguished careers.
