Rural poverty in developing countries can be overwhelming: little education and health care, bad infrastructure and sometimes even no food security. Internet can help in relieving some problems of people in rural areas. But how do poor people get internet? With a $ 100 laptop, with internet cafes? Professor Jeffrey James at Tilburg University researches the problems of bringing internet to rural areas of developing countries and he argues that one needs to examine models where an intermediary comes between the people and the technology.
Prof. Dr. Jeffrey James is a development economist specialized in microeconomic analysis of developing countries, technology and development and is the author of the book ?Information technology and development?.
