IWOC's 40th Munchkin Convention

For the first time, the International Wizard of Oz Club (IWOC) will hold its Munchkin
Convention in the actual geographical area where L. Frank Baum (author of "The Wizard of
Oz") once lived from 1862-1888. Hosting the Munchkin Convention in the heart of Syracuse
brings historical and educational benefits that are incalculable. For people to be able
to see and walk through the actual areas where Baum once lived, worked, and wrote his
early stage plays will be a unique experience. Did the early life experiences here in the
Syracuse area help shape his future Oz books? Perhaps this convention will spark another
clue to solve this mystery!

This, the IWOC's 40th Munchkin Convention, will celebrate the Oz phenomenon through a
remarkable variety of events and features, including movies, an auction, lectures by
scholarly Oz experts, and opportunities to meet with celebrities associated with the
movie "The Wizard of Oz" and their descendants. In addition, this 2009 Munchkin
Convention will celebrate the ongoing 30th anniversary of Universal's movie classic "The
Wiz," 70th anniversary of the 1939 MGM movie classic, The Wizard of Oz, as well as the
100th anniversary of Baum's 5th book in the Oz series, The Road to Oz, published in 1909.
Also the 200 Anniversary Birthday of the Town of Salina, where L. Frank Baum once lived.
Proceeds will benefit the International Wizard of Oz Club.
