Five full days. More than 40 events. More than 100 speakers. All events are open to the public free of charge, all events provide free simultaneous translation into English and Italian. The second edition of the Perugia International Journalism Festival, to be held in the stunning Umbrian town of Perugia from 09 to 13 April 2008, is an open invitation to listen to and network with the very best of world journalism.
The aim of the festival is fourfold:
- to bring the world of journalism to the general public, raising awareness of and interest in current affairs
- to bring together journalists from different journalistic perspectives and traditions, providing a stimulating annual rendezvous in and around the streets and piazzas of Perugia
- to celebrate excellence and/or courage in journalistic writing worldwide
- to be informal, accessible and fun
Confirmed international speakers at the 2008 festival include Carl Bernstein, Alastair Campbell, Christopher Dickey, Peter Eisner, Robert Fisk, Roy Greenslade, Bachi Karkaria, Eric Laurent, Ann Leslie, Robert Ménard, Anne Nivat, Fred Pearce, Knut Royce, Michael Specter, Alexander Stille, Philippe Val and many more. Media represented include Al Jazeera International, BBC, Charlie Hebdo, CNN, The Daily Mail, The Daily Telegraph, The Economist, Le Figaro, France Presse, The Guardian, The Independent, The New Scientist, Newsweek, The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Observer, Le Point, Private Eye, Reporters sans Frontières, Reuters, The Times, The Times of India, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post and others. They will be joined by a wide range of the very best of Italian journalism. An open session for prospective students will be held by the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, New York.
All festival events are open to the public free of charge but please note that in order to be guaranteed entry to a particular event it is necessary to book. Those who come to events without having booked will be able to enter only if the event is not full. Online booking will be available from 01 March 2008. Press accreditation is available. Simultaneous translation via headphones will be provided to all members of the audience at all festival events featuring international speakers.
