The melodious sounds of harp guitars will take center stage at the Williamsburg Library Theatre, 515 Scotland Street, with two concerts featuring guitarist Stephen Bennett and a dozen of his friends from around the world. The concerts will be Saturday, October 27 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, October 28 at 3 p.m. Admission for each of the concerts is $18 for adults, $15 for Friends of Williamsburg Regional Library and students with ID and $9 for those under 16. They can be reserved with a credit card by calling (757) 259-4070. This is another in the librarys Dewey Decibel Concert Series.
Other U.S. harp guitar performers joining Bennett include John Doan from Oregon; Californian Gregg Miner; Andy Wahlberg, Florida; Andy McKee from Kansas (who performed earlier this year in Williamsburg) and Muriel Anderson and Tom Shinness, both from Tennessee. International guitarists joining in the concert include Canadian Don Adler (the 2007 International Fingerpicking Guitar Champion) and Andreas David from Germany.
The performers are in town for the fifth annual Harp Guitar Gathering, first organized by Stephen Bennett in 2003 at the Williamsburg Library. The Gathering features a weekend of activities for those interested in the harp guitar. Luthiers (craftsmen who make guitars and other stringed instruments) will be present, as will experts on various makes of harp guitars.
