International Fun Food Fest: What's On Your Plate?
Each spring, International House-Davis hosts an annual conference. Typically, the activities of the conference focus around one country or region of the world. This year, I-House proposes to do something a little different. This year the conference will take place on Saturday, April 25 and the theme will be to celebrate food from around the world.
International Fun Food Fest: What's On Your Plate?
All over the world, food inspires individual family roles, rules and traditions. What we eat, with whom we eat and how we interact as we eat stimulates and strengthens the bond of families, communities and even countries.
Join us on Saturday, April 25, from 1:00 to 5:00 pm at 10 College Park, Davis as I-House explores the history, customs, culture, and distinctive characteristics of foods from various regions of the world. There will be a number of lively and informative presentations by several distinguished scientists and researchers from the UCD, Departments of Food Science and Technology, and Nutrition as well as from the Culinary Institute of America -- Dr. Charlotte Biltekoff, Dr. Charles Bamforth, Dr. Daniela Barile, Dr. Lou Grivetti, and Dr. Chris Loss.
Admission at the door will be $7.00 for IHD members and $10 for non-members. Please come with cash and cheques. We regret that I-House cannot accept credit cards for this event.
There will be no parking in the I-House lot on that day. Parking is available on the street or at the UCD North Entry parking structure. Parking in both of these spaces is free on weekends.
I-House appreciates the major contributions of several businesses, volunteers and vendors for their support of this event.
For your entertainment, there will be an interpretive dance depicting "The Making of Cheese", Denise Hoffner – a local comedian, a no-host beer garden, and the Davis Waldorf School Gypsy Fiddlers and Singing Students. There will be several food vendors and an opportunity to support the local Davis STEAC program. Bring 3 food items to donate to STEAC and get $2 off your entrance fee.
In recognition of the theme of the conference, our monthly films for April will be "Big Night" and "Ratatouille". For more information about these films and times they will be showing, please click on the link.
More details regarding this event will be added regularly. Please continue to check the website or call Shirley German (530) 758-4196 for more information.
