Speaker: Shane Godbolt, Director, Partnerships in Health Information

International development issues seem far removed from our daily lives. We can give to charities, of course. But, is that really all we can do? High profile campaigns such as The UN’s Millennium Development Goals and the Make Poverty History manifesto have placed the subject firmly on the political map. It is surprising, but true, that anyone working in a library or other information service is in a key position to help their own organisation contribute to the work of development projects. This talk will suggest how to do it.

Shane has spent a lifetime enthusiastically supporting the creation of health libraries in the third world. She will talk about her involvement with library partnerships - especially through PHI (Partnerships in Health Information). This is a British charity working with many partners in the UK and overseas to improve the health of people in developing countries, with a particular emphasis on Africa.

Shane Godbolt was a PHI Trustee for almost 15 years before becoming Director in 2006. She has worked in the public sector and been very active in professional affairs and in contributing to the development of health library networks - especially as an NHS regional librarian and as Advisor in Knowledge Management for the NHS Modernisation Agency. She was a founder and editor of Health Information and Libraries Journal. Education and training, especially CPD, have always been a passion and she has contributed to courses for health librarians in the UK as well as in Africa and Asia.

This talk will be of particular value to anyone registered for CILIP Chartership and can contribute towards CPD requirements.
