Insight with Charles Glass, author of The Tribes Triumphant - £5
In conversation with Martin Woollacott
Tribes With Flags chronicled Charles Glass’s 1987 abduction in Beirut, where he was held for two months before he escaped from his Hizbollah captors. The Tribes Triumphant: Return Journey to the Middle East picks up where Flags left off, following his return march north along the path of the Levant's last successful invasion, traversing across the Jordanian desert to the Iraqi border with Bedouin guides, exploring modern Israel, and revisiting the scene of his captivity.
Charles Glass began his journalistic career in Beirut in 1973. He spent two decades in the Middle East, covering the October Arab-Israeli War in Syria and Egypt and the civil war in Lebanon. For more thirty years, he has been a regular contributor and columnist in newspapers and magazines in the United States and the United Kingdom, covering wars in Eritrea, Rhodesia, Somalia, Iraq and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Martin Woollacott is the former foreign correspondent, foreign editor and commentator on international affairs for the Guardian. Now retired, he continues to contribute occasional pieces to the Guardian.
Charles Glass will be on hand to sign books post-discussion.
