Innovation by Accident Exhibition
Dates: 14th April–12th July
Accidents happen! On railways, innovations follow to prevent further accidents and make rail travel safer.
With a compelling series of historical photographs and railway objects the exhibition demonstrates how railways were once the cutting edge of invention and innovation since the first locomotive hauled the first train.
A highlight event is on Sunday 22 April, when three guest lecturers will share their insights into areas of railway innovation.
• Join civil engineer, historian and bridge expert Bill Phippen to discover how the Hawkesbury River (railway) Bridge was built and why it was better than the original.
• Come on a journey with RailCorp Chief Engineer, Signals and Control Systems, Warwick Allison as he discusses how signalling has developed from innovation by accident to safety by design.
• Discover the wonderful innovations and inventions on the Garratt steam locomotives with renowned railway author Craig Mackey.
There is no additional charge for the exhibition, but seating availability at the lectures is strictly limited, pre-booking (by pre-purchasing a Trainworks entry ticket) is essential to secure a seat. Visit www.trainworks.com.au for booking details. Ticket entry prices are: Adult $19, Concession $16, Children $12, Family $57.
