ING New York City Marathon November 6, 2004

The New York City Marathon began on a warm September morning in Central Park in 1970. That first race had 127 starters and 55 finishers. On Sunday, November 7, 2004, up to 35,000 participants will journey through the streets of New York City's five boroughs, cheered on by more than 2 million spectators and assisted by 12,000 volunteers. Throughout its history, the marathon has symbolized the triumph of the human spirit and the extraordinary possiblities of individual achievement.
