Join us for a Sunday afternoon screening of Bay Area up and coming local cinema. We are showing a feature and two shorts from local directors Ryan Harper, Rachel McGraw and Alan Dunkel. The feature film Circulation has had showings at the Roxie and in LA. The shorts The Wish Thief and Everything, but the Girl have shown at the Victoria theater in San Francisco. Don't miss this one, the filmmakers will be in attendence to answer questions and some great limited edition movie memorabilia will be included in the intermission raffle (prizes also include an AC Transit Trans Bay pass valued at $116). The program is not rated but is within the PG-13 range. . If you are a student or a teacher, contact pr@nilesfilmmuseum.org to see if there are any complimentary tickets still available through our special opportunities funds.
This museum often shows silent films, but to be clear this program isn't silent and is from 2008. There is lots of free street parking within a block. There also tours available starting at noon which includes the original projection booth complete with tin lining from back when nitrate film was highly flammable ( no danger now of course ). The theater was built in 1913 and is currently getting refurbished by all volunteers as this is a non-profit museum.
More about the films:
Circulation ( Feature 98min )
Circulation http://circulationfilm.com/ investigates a purgatory where
the dead still have human form and the world around them looks the
same as the living world. The people trapped in this purgatory start
to develop the instincts that animals are naturally born with. Gene, a
retiree vacationing in Baja, is learning the instincts of a spider and
stumbles upon a woman who is destined to be reborn as a
caterpillar/moth. The film explores a world where human and animal
intertwine as one. Directed by Ryan Harper, Circulation stars Sherman Koltz and Yvonne DeLaRosa.
Everything, but the Girl ( 10min )
Set in the Oakland hills, Everything, but the Girl is a dark comedic
tale complete with guns, blood and lots of electricity. Johnny
Demonski has everything he deamed of, a home with a view, money,
acclaim, respect, everything that is, but the girl he's wanted since
high school. Johnny's plans for adding Jodi to his list of
accomplishments brighten as their 10 year high school reunion looms, but will his money and blind ambition win him the girl or seal his fate? Directed by Alan Dunkel, Everything, but the Girl features the
stunning cast of Jeromey Shafer, Betsy Maldonado, Jeanne Young,
Susannah Layton and Josh Bower.
The Wish Thief ( 10min )
The wish thief, a private and somewhat unkempt man in his thirties,
works as a caretaker in a run-down, half-deserted public garden. When nobody is looking, he steals coins from a fountain and takes them to an imprisoned Djinn. The Djinn reveals the wishes contained in each coin and the thief makes his selection. Their dealings appear cordial, but each partner has secret intentions that emerge when their
partnership stales. Shot in a pair of strange, forgotten locations in
the rocky hills of the East Bay, The Wish Thief is directed by Rachel
McGraw of El Cerrito, CA, and features powerful performances by Rowan Brooks as the thief, and Orlando Mendoza as the Djinn.
