The Guthrie Theater presents a Pillsbury House Theatre and The Mount Curve Company co-production of "In the Red and Brown Water." An area premiere by "the hottest young playwright in America," Tarell Alvin McCraney, "In the Red and Brown Water" is the first play in McCraney's trilogy "The Brother/Sister Plays." It tells the story of Oya, a young woman from the Louisiana projects whose path to a promising adulthood comes to a devastating crossroad whe she must choose between caring for her ailing mother and the athletic scholarship that would transform her life. Lusciously theatrical and boldly original, "In the Red and Brown Water" lyrically weaves together elements of urban contemporary realism with West African mysticism.
Directed by Marion McClinton; Featuring: Ansa Akyea (Shango), Nathan Barlow (The Egungun), Aimee K. Bryant (Shun), John Catron (O Li Roon), Christiana Clark (Oya), Celeste Jones (Nia), Gavin Lawrence (Elegba), Greta Oglesby (Aunt Elegua), Sonja Parks (Mama Moja) and James A. Williams (Ogun Size).
