Two, four hour drop-in craft workshops are scheduled at the Branigan Cultural Center in Las Cruces. Titled “In the Nick of Time” the workshops provide an opportunity to create hand made holiday crafts just in time for gift giving or as decorations for the holiday season. The workshops are Friday, December 19th from 1-4 and Saturday, December 20th from 9-1. No registration is required; participants can drop in anytime during posted hours. There is a $5.00 activity fee for each craft project. The fee covers all supplies, materials and instruction. Participants select project to complete from painted tin ornaments, tissue paper flowers, and papel picado banners.
Painted tin ornaments are fun to make and hold up well for use for years to come. From snowflakes to brightly colored cut out shapes, painted tin ornaments can be used to decorate your holiday tree or trim a special package. Tissue paper flowers add a festive note wherever they are used. Make a bouquet of flowers as a table decoration or add them to holiday garland. Winter and holiday themed papel picado banners are a great addition to any home. String them from the ceiling or across a window to add a special touch to any room.
Workshops are open for all ages. Young children (ages 6 and under) must be accompanied by an adult. Parents should note that all crafts offered require use of sharp tools and that not all children will have the dexterity need to complete projects. Space is offered on a first come basis. The Branigan Cultural Center is at the north end of the downtown mall, at 501 N. Main.
