Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) presents the seminar Improve Your Financial Health: A Workshop for Artists and Producers on Thursday, May 26, 2011 from 7:30-9:30pm at Studio 353, 353 W. 48th Street, 2nd floor (between 8th and 9th Avenues), NYC.
Prospering artists produce better art than starving ones. Why? Because they can. This seminar will take the fear out of finances. Freelancers/artists/business owners have a very different relationship to money then a salaried employee. And because of that, they have different opportunities available that can help to grow businesses and pursue crafts.
The evening will begin by examining emotions about money and how it relates to art and the goal of success. Once a comfortable language in which to discuss money has been established, the focus can move to the fundamentals of traditional business planning and explore how, with just a little tweak, they can be applied to the arts. Starting with goal planning and the language of finance and moving through budgeting, balance sheets and financial products, participants will walk away with a more organized method of creating, tracking and growing their artistic ventures, including a personal financial website, a freelancers budgeting tool, and a list of financial resources and glossary of essential terms to help you understand money management.
Taught by Bailie Slevin: Member of AEA, League of Professional Theatre Women and The New York Coalition of Women in Arts and Media. Bailie has stage managed, general managed and produced shows and events off-off Broadway, Off Broadway and Broadway that have won IT Awards, OBIE Awards, Drama Desk and Tony Awards. She is currently a financial advisor with Forest Hills Financial Group on a mission to bring fiscal health and responsibility to the entertainment community.
