Imprint 2008: Meet The Authors - Jane Harris & Anne Donovan November 15, 2008

Imprint 08 ends with a fantastic finalé and a chance to meet Glasgow-based authors Jane Harris and Anne Donovan for an evening of readings, stories and laughs.

Jane Harris’ first novel, The Observations, is narrated by Irish girl Bessy, a fiesty character with a colourful turn of phrase. Inspired by her mother, aunt and friend; all Irish women with a witty sense of humour and ability to tell a great story, Jane captured their characters within her book. The novel was nominated for the Orange Prize in Fiction 2007.

Born in Belfast and raised in Glasgow, Jane’s short stories have appeared in a wide variety of anthologies and magazines and she has written several award-winning short films. Jane is currently working on her second novel, which is set in Glasgow in the late 1800’s. Anne Donovan’s latest novel, Being Emily is set in contemporary Glasgow and is told by Fiona, a young installation artist who describes her life through secondary school and art college. The book tackles major issues: a family tragedy, multiculturalism, same-sex parenthood, teenage pregnancy and betrayal all addressed with warmth and humour.

Buddha Da, her first novel, received a great deal of attention and was shortlisted for many prizes and awards. The book received a Scottish Arts Council Award and, in 2004, won Le Prince Maurice Award in Mauritius.
