From Joe Short:
Typically I brew a huge IPA to celebrate another year of survival of operating a small business and microbrewery in Northern Michigan (because it is such a miraculous endeavor). Last year we celebrated our second birthday on April 22, 2006. This year we are celebrating our 3rd birthday on April 28th 2007.
On April 23, 2006 I started working on this year’s anniversary beer. Or should I say beers? Last year I decided I wanted to brew a bunch of big, crazy brews once a month over the course of a year and release them on our 3rd birthday. We are working through them and getting caught up. I have decided to release them a day earlier than the anniversary party so I could talk about them and share the story of all the effort and planning it has taken to develop, brew, and package them. Since the traditional anniversary party is a pretty ridiculous day, I didn't’t want all of this hard work to be released without a proper ceremony and recognition. So I decided it needed a day all to itself.
This event I hope to develop in a similar fashion as the other productions, (the Christmas party and the Huma Lupa Release) with a slide show and commentary on the brews and all the crazy stories that follow. I also hope to incorporate some of the early photos of college home brewing, and the beginning stages of our development and construction here in Bellaire. I envision doing small plate appetizers to compliment the brews as we preview them for purchase.
Remember the crates? Hopefully we can produce a few more before everything shakes down, so those of you true collectors of craft fermentations can have the entire completed package. We still have a handful here for sale. You can still buy a custom, hand made crate, by yours truly here at SBC for $20. Fill it with 3 SBC merchandise items or more and get 10% off the contents. Bring the crate back on April 27th and collect the imperial beer series and get 10% off the entire series.
