Parenting kids in todaly's world can be scary! And scary for our kids! I do not need to tell you about all the negativity that surrounds our youth on a regular basis. The purpose of this group is 2 fold; 1st I believe strengthening our families must first start with us, the parents. Therefore, the first 8 meetings will be geared towards working on ourselves. Activities will focus on stress management techniques, conquering unhealthy habits, time management, goal setting, dealing with disappointment or loss, positive self-image and conflicts, communication & relationships and how they all are tied together. The second part, the summer months, will be for our youth and strengthening them. They will learn the skills needed to become stronger individuals to withstand the negative influnces they are faced with daily in today's schools & society. The activites are designed to help young people learn about themselves, examine important areas in building a wellness lifestyle, and perceive themselves in positive, self-affirming ways. They will learn to take charge of their lives by acquiring the skills, knowledge, and strength to identify and stand up for their own values. The activities focus on growth in all major areas of wellness-physical, mental, emotional, values clarification, self-responsibility, self-esteem, relationship building, substance misuse and abuse, communication skills and peer pressure.
