Images Theatre Company opens their newest musical “WE COME FROM GREATNESS – LEGACY II” on February 11, 2011 at the Guild Theater. “WE COME FROM GREATNESS – LEGACY II” is a spin off from ITC’s signature musical, LEGACY, which the company has presented annually for the past 3 years. “WE COME FROM GREATNESS – LEGACY II,” is written and directed by ITC Founder/Executive Director, Lisa Lacy, music and musical direction by Charles Cooper, with choreography by Tamara Eugene.
Like LEGACY, the production invites the audience to journey with the cast from the past to the present, remembering the struggles of African-Americans, and celebrating their progress as people in this country. It is an ensemble theater production, which entertains while educating. The musical, “WE COME FROM GREATNESS –LEGACY II” raises the bar by dramatically placing its audience members right in the middle of monumental historical occurrences that provide them with a more in-depth viewpoint of some of the major incidences throughout history. Utilizing a creative and impressive collection of vignettes, poetry, prose, and music, “WE COME FROM GREATNESS – LEGACY II” traces stories of African-Americans from African kingdoms/pre-slavery through to the current day election of President Obama.
Regardless to ethnicity, “WE COME FROM GREATNESS – LEGACY II” will excite, educate, enlighten, entertain, and inspire its audience members, while reminding us that regardless, we must all press forward together in order to keep Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream alive and that in the big picture there is only one race, the human race. “WE COME FROM GREATNESS – LEGACY II” is an uplifting show for the whole family, schools, and churches to attend. The music is beautiful and the words will resonate with you, long after the show is over.
