St. Andrew’s Church will be hosting and sponsoring this photo exhibition to benefit the Circle of Peace School’s current development project.
When Joanita Senoga (founder of the Peace School) and her friend Iria Jones went to Uganda last winter to relocate and rebuild part of the school, two students (Jia Wu and Joyce Meng) from the online non-profit organization Givology joined her. During their stay they came up with the concept behind this photo exhibition. These students asked over 100 children at the Peace School and in the village of Makindye, Uganda what they would buy with $50, and these children responded by drawing what they would buy. None of these children have ever had $50 in their whole life, so you can imagine the kinds of things the children drew. These Givology students then took pictures of each child holding his/her drawing, and once back in the U.S., they organized an exhibit in New York featuring all of these photos and the original drawings. Selling each photo for $50, they began the “What would you buy with $50?” campaign, and so far they have managed to raise over $6,000 for the Circle of Peace School.
On August 27th, St. Andrew’s Church and Joanita will be continuing the $50 campaign to fundraise for the Circle of Peace School. All of the proceeds will go towards building new classrooms and dormitories at the school, which are needed to manage over-crowding at the school. Come and attend “Images of Hope” and learn more about the students at the Peace School. If you have any questions, please feel free to message Joanita Senoga through her Facebook.
