Visitors are invited to bring in objects and collections for identification by experts from the fields of paleontology, anthropology, archaeology, botany, zoology, and geology. Visitors may bring in such items as shells; rocks and minerals; invertebrate fossils; arrow heads; shards of pottery; vertebrate bones; insects; skulls; seeds, leaves and twigs; and fish. The event is also fun for visitors who don't have objects to bring in. Learn about the specimens and artifacts in the experts' collections, and find out what surprises other visitors have brought in! Sorry, no appraisals will be given. The Museum will also be celebrating National Fossil Day on October 3; the first National Fossil Day will take place on on October 13, 2010 during Earth Science Week.
