Ice Theatre of New York, the nation’s premier ice dance company, honors Olympic Skater Paul Wylie and Choreographer Lar Lubovitch at its Annual Benefit Gala

This year, Ice Theatre of New York will be hosting its annual Benefit Gala and Performance in honor of Olympic Silver Medalist and renowned Ice Artist, Paul Wylie at 7 p.m. on Monday, October 26, 2009. The event will include a performance by the Ice Theatre of New York at Sky Rink at Chelsea Piers. Cocktails, dinner and festivities to follow at The Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers.

In addition to honoring Paul Wylie, Ice Theatre will present a Choreography Award to Lar Lubovitch in recognition of his many works for skaters, from pieces for Paul Wylie, John Curry and Peggy Fleming, to the televised ice ballet, The Planets.

Ice Theatre of New York will present the Ice Angel Award to Sky Rink for its recognition of ice skating as performing art and its long-time support.

The Gala Performance is scheduled to feature a new work by choreographer Douglas Webster, as well as selections from ITNY’s existing repertory, which may include La Revolte des Enfants by Alberto del Saz, 2:1 by David Liu, The Dreame, by Jacqulynn Buglisi, Draughtsman’s Contract by Elisa Monte, and Heart by JoAnna Mendl Shaw. Among Lubovitch’s works, Gershwin Suite and Tilt-a-Whirl may be presented during this evening’s performance.

The evening will support Ice Theatre of New York’s New Works and Young Artists Series, an outreach program for public school children in Manhattan and Queens, as well as all of our 2009-2010 season's artistic programming.

Benefit tickets start at $350 for individuals and $3,000 for tables. Performance-only tickets are available: $25 a ticket – discount for seniors and students is $15.
