Southbank Centre
London, England SE1 8XX

Inspired by Iain Sinclair's new book Hackney, That Rose-Red Empire, this is an evening of readings and film to capture London's last renegade spirit, before the Olympics changes the borough for ever.

Using the 'documentary fiction' style which has made Sinclair's name, and showing film footage never shown in public before, this event offers a portrait of a place, uncovering the secret histories and famous figures that populate Hackney, which contribute to its unique psyche.

'It's a habit I can't break: the habit of Hackney: writing and walking, 30 years in one house' (Iain Sinclair).

It looks like this might be a little later than intended, but still going on.

According to BoingBoing:

"Well, I've just had my second flight cancellation from London-Boston in 24 hours, and my new flight doesn't land until 5PM. As many of you know, I'm scheduled to be speaking at MIT's Bartos Theater at 5PM, which means I'm going to be late."
