In the jazz world, respecting the jazz tradition is very much about paying homage to those who came before. This memorial concert pays tribute to a unique singer/ saxophonist who influenced two generations of musicians in Montreal. John Kerningham Sidney Scott (aka) Johnny Scott passed away last spring. He was a mainstay at Montreal jazz establishments and entertained many with a rich baritone voice that was the epitome of romance.
The stellar musical ensemble gathered together for this memorial evening have all been touched by Mr. Scott and his music. The night features Canadian crooner, John Labelle (as a young man he was greatly inspired by Scott, going on to become a professional himself), and the big sound of tenor saxophonist, Cameron Wallis. Jazz pianist, Geoff Lapp will host the night with his trio. Geoff tickled the ivories for decades with Mr. Scott along with long time band mates (Paul Johnston- bass, Dave Laing- drums). This is sure to be a swinging, soulful night.
This Quintet is for you Johnny!
