Directed by La Boite Artistic director David Berthold and starring the brilliant Leon Cain as Johnny, I Love You, Bro is playing at Riverside Theatres from Tuesday, 5 June to Saturday, 9 June 2012.
Nominated for a Greenroom Award for Best Australian Writing, this inspired Australian play is driven by an urgent vernacular that will deliver an electrifying night in the theatre. Delve into the mind of a teenage chat room junkie: a modern boy, remarkably clever and longing for connection, who spins a web of deceit that destroys two lives - all for the glory of love. A piece about one of today’s most controversial issues, I Love You, Bro is guaranteed to open discussions between parents and their teenagers.
Meet Johnny. He wants to be someone, and online he can be anyone he wants. One night he poses online as a girl named Alba J and entices gullible chat room virgin Marky Mark into an explicit conversation. As Johnny’s infatuation grows, he creates a string of fictitious characters as a serial killer, a female secret service agent and multiple family members of Alba J - all in pursuit of getting what he most desires.
