Synopsis:
In this poignant documentary, an intimate account of one family’s migration from India and settlement in the UK is captured over a period of four decades. During the sixties, a “brain drain”, the phenomenon whereby nations lose skilled labor to richer countries, began occurring as dozens of Indian doctors left for England to fulfill their medical needs. Yashpal Suri was one of the doctors that made the faithful decision to go to England with the intention of eventually returning to his homeland and the relatives he left behind. Using two sets of video cameras and audio equipment, the families send each other clips of their joys and sorrows as time passes, revealing their distinctively different lifestyles in separate countries.

Lovingly pieced together from home movies, audio correspondence and archival footage, filmmaker and daughter of Yashpal Suri, Sandhya Suri creates a fascinating film that illustrates the lives of one family across two generations, divided by the immigrant experience.
