Hurlyburly
A comedy by David Rabe

Directed by Mel Tuck

October 22-31

You’ve seen the film starring Sean Penn and Kevin Spacey, and featuring an all star cast – now enjoy the brilliant stage play brought to life in Vancouver! Eddie, a Hollywood casting director, and his partner Mickey search for meaning in their empty, isolated lives through endless discussions with their buddies Artie and Phil, stimulated by a seemingly endless supply of drugs and alcohol. These men are cut adrift from the women in their lives so when Eddie’s romantic focus Darlene ends up with Mickey, Artie drops off a ‘care package’ in the form of young, disillusioned Donna, and Eddie tries to bring Phil back from the depths of his own soul by giving him the gift of Bonnie, an exotic dancer – anything could happen.

Seasoned Director and pillar of Canadian Theatre Mel Tuck will take audiences on an unforgettable journey through the intersecting lives of these men in a darkly humourous, adult-only play set in early 80’s Hollywood. An immortal story of men searching for identity deprived of real female contact, HURLYBURLY is a poignant commentary on the male ego.

This is the premier production for crossthelineproductions, a new local theatre company dedicated to producing great plays and showcasing up and coming local talent. Cast for HURLYBURLY in order of appearance are: Brian McBride (Eddie), Frank Topol (Phil), Shannon Christopher (Mickey), Jerry Bannister (Artie), Kelsey Gillis (Donna), Susan Milne (Darlene), & Jennifer Lorbetski (Bonnie).
