In an attempt to find good homes for hundreds of homeless kittens, cats, puppies and dogs, WCSX-FM 94.7 will sponsor the fifth annual “Huntington Bank Pet-A-Palooza” FREE pet adoption event on Saturday, July 29 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, July 30 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Both days will include family and pet-oriented activities and attendees are encouraged to bring their pets to the event.
The two-day “Huntington Bank Pet-A-Palooza” will include:
·More than 800 kittens, cats, puppies, dogs and rabbits in Adoption Alley from 30 humane organizations who need good homes. Qualified individuals can adopt an animal on-site. Adoption fees usually range from $50 to $125 and new pet owners will receive a gift pack courtesy of Pet Supplies Plus and Purina.
·An on-site canine blood drive by the Oakland Veterinary Referral Services. The public is encouraged to bring their dogs to see if they meet the requirements to be included in the organization’s blood bank registry. More than 400 blood transfusions were given to sick animals in Michigan last year. Canine blood is always in need for emergency surgeries and the blood registry allows healthy canines to “save” another dog’s life.
·Local search and rescue organizations conducting demonstrations in conjunction with The Bear Search & Rescue Foundation. If you haven’t heard of Bear, he and his owner, Captain Scott Shields, led the first search teams at Ground Zero. They’re credited with finding the most victims at the World Trade Center and the only live finds by a dog. Bear is deceased, but his legacy and life saving practices continue to be taught.
·The Doggie Fun Zone – an interactive sports-focused amusement park designed to challenge a dog’s agility skills. A $12 entry fee includes a guided trial run by a trained professional followed by a timed run. Sponsored by Oakland Veterinary Referral Services.
·A Father And Son Doghouse Giveaway – A raffle will be held for a “souped up” doghouse complete with an air conditioner/heater, windows, shutters and a dormer. The drawing will be held on July 30. Registrants must be 21 years or older and do not have to be present to win. One entry per household. Sponsored by Father and Son Construction Company.
·Performances by the Rock-N-Roll K-9’s – Thirty-five dogs demonstrate speed and agility skills to rock-n-roll music.
·A Pet Supplies Plus Coloring Contest – Artistic pet lovers are invited to stop by the Pet Supplies Plus booth to vote for their favorite drawing by making a donation that benefits the Michigan Humane Society.
Also planned for the day are cutest pet and best-dressed pet contests. On-site will be several vendors selling pet-related products and services. Pet Supplies Plus and Nestle Purina will be donating all proceeds raised at the event to the Michigan Humane Society.
Former Detroit Tiger pitcher Milt Wilcox will attend both days of the “Huntington Bank Pet-A-Palooza” with his Labrador retriever Sparky and his nationally-known Ultimate Air Dogs Competition (formerly Dock Dogs Competition).
The public will have an opportunity to enter their dogs in the Ultimate Air Dogs Competition. The cost to compete in the competition is $10 per competition that includes two rounds. Practice jumps can be held for $5 each whether for fun or competition practice. Proceeds from the competition will be donated to Guardians for Animals, a local non-profit animal-rights organization.
