Miami Dade College (MDC) West and the City of Doral will present an exhibition of Humberto Benitez’s work beginning Friday, Oct. 22, at 8:30 p.m. titled "Our Identity."
Benitez’s work is presented in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Born in the town of Guanajay in Cuba’s province of Pinar del Rio, he began painting as a child with red clay soil and charcoal, opening a new world of shades and blending techniques. Today, his vibrant creations have been acquired by international corporations and private collectors. His art appears in many forms, including art painted on instruments, murals in a luxurious cruise ship and Mangos Tropical Café, art for magazines and official festival posters, and much more. In addition, Benitez is a percussionist who plays bongos and triple congas.
MDC West will be the first stop in a trolley tour including area hotels, restaurants and entertainment venues as part of the weekly Social Fridays in Doral project.
Admission is free and open to the public. West Gallery will open for every Social Friday from 8 – 10 p.m. Doral trolley service is free.
