The trails of Huffhines Park come alive the fourth weekend in October when the award-winning Huffhines Art Trails Festival celebrates its 35th year. Located at 1500 Apollo Road in Richardson (adjacent to the City’s brand new Huffhines Recreation Center), Huffhines Art Trails Festival is an annual fall tradition for folks searching for that perfect, unique holiday gift for friends, family, or themselves! Festival hours are 10:00 am until 6:00 pm with free admission and free parking.
The Huffhines Art Trails Festival features 150 local and out-of-state artisans and craftsmen showcasing a wide variety of contemporary, traditional and country crafts, as well as fine art and some foods. From jewelry to woodwork, metal work to fiber, painting to photography, pottery to glass- You’re sure to find a unique keepsake for yourself or someone special as you wind the trails in the beautifully landscaped Huffhines Park.
There’s performing art too! Huffhines Art Trails offers live entertainment on its very own “Front Porch” Stage and a dance floor. Talented North Texas musicians, as well as local performing arts groups, create a fun, festive mood in the Café Huffhines courtyard. Melvin Smith School of Dance gets things going Saturday followed by the easy listening sound of Cindy Hortsman, then Camille Cortinas plays followed by the melodic music of Beyond the Pale, and headlining the day, the multitalented singer and musician, Reno Perez. On Sunday it’s the beautiful music of Heartstrings to open the day followed by Holt & Stockslager performing the music of Simon and Garfunkel, the groovin’ and bluesin’of John Gaar and Michael Cross followed by Brasuka. Closing out the event is the Marc Toussaint Combo - you’ll be wanting to hear more and dancing all the way to your car.
All this shopping and music is enough to make anyone hungry……our eclectic selections of festival foods are sure to satisfy your cravings. Back by popular demand are Hillbilly KettleKorn, Mario’s Greek Cuisine, Conway’s Corny Dogs, Texas Twist Soft Pretzels, Dippin Dots Ice Cream, D & L Catering and Bunch of Nuts. Huffhines Art Trails Festival also features Café Huffhines – our trademark café that offers delicious down home goodies like Frito pie “all the way,” skillet peaches with whipped cream, apples with caramel sauce and walnuts – even a bag of boiled peanuts!
Huffhines Art Trails Festival has stuff for kids too! There’s a built-in playground and a hay bale maze, and while the big kids are shopping the younger ones can participate in our “Huffhines Hunt,” an on-site scavenger hunt that takes you through the winding trails of the park! Stop by Huffhines Headquarters for your list and then bring it back when you’re finished to collect your treat!
Once again festival attendees can vote for their favorite pumpkin in the 4rd annual City of Richardson Departmental Pumpkin Decorating Contest. Last year’s winners included pumpkins cleverly decorated by the Civic Center, the Library and the Citizen’s Information Service and Health Departments.
A weekend full of ART, MUSIC, FOOD & FUN – A fall tradition for 35 years! See you on the trails…..For complete festival information visit www.huffhinesarttrails.com or call 972.744.4580.
