This course covers HSC English Extension 1 Module B Texts and Ways of Thinking Elective 2: Romanticism. Students will explore the notion of a particular historical period and the ways in which it shapes literature and other texts with a focus on Romanticism from the late 18th Century to the mid 19th Century. You will study the full range of set texts with the aid of a substantial course booklet and you will discuss possibilities for texts of your own choosing. A particular feature is that the course includes focus on both the creative writing and critical essay components of the exam with a further course booklet to support learning of the creative writing component worth fifty percent of the exam paper. The course explains the ways of thinking characteristic of Romanticism including individualism, the imagination and experiment with new ideas about identity and society.
