This course covers HSC English Extension 1 Module A: Genre Elective 2: Crime Writing. Students will explore and evaluate notions of genre in relation to the history of crime writing and the requirements for the HSC exam. You will study the full range of the set texts with the aid of a substantial course booklet and you will discuss possibilities for texts of your own choosing. A particular feature is that the course includes focus on both the creative writing and critical essay components of the exam with a further course booklet to support learning of the creative writing component worth fifty percent of the exam paper. The course deals with issues about changing values, genre and texts and with textual convention and subversion across time and in fiction, film and television.
