How to Save Energy and Money in Small and Medium Businesses February 17, 2009

Hosted by Sustainable Silicon Valley, this no-cost training session, repeated at 2pm to 4.30pm on February 17th (in Cupertino) and at same times on 18th (in San Mateo), provides employees of small and medium businesses in Silicon Valley with the tools they need to evaluate and prioritize different energy saving projects to save energy and money

The course material is based on "Improving Your Bottom Line: How Energy Efficiency Can Reduce Carbon Emissions and Boost Profitability--A Guidebook for Small and Medium Businesses in the Silicon Valley", available for download from the Sustainable Silicon Valley web site at www.SustainableSiliconValley.org.

You will be given an introduction to the components of energy, and hands-on training in calculating energy savings and simple payback. Your energy saving options & estimating your saving potential from your utility bills will be explained and you will be made familiar with the energy consumption of your equipment. General strategies for using the information from the SSV Guidebook will be provided. In addition, you will have the opportunity to ask questions related to your own specific assignments.

The instructor, Karen McGinley is a mechanical engineer and energy efficiency program administrator at KEMA, Inc. with over 8 years experience helping small and medium businesses to save energy.

Each session will be most helpful to representatives from small and medium businesses interested in learning how to save energy and money through energy efficiency improvements. These sessions are designed for commercial businesses such as offices, retail outlets and lodgings except that the morning sessions will also include information specific to refrigeration systems for food stores and restaurants.
