Being copied and someone else ripping off your creative ideas is a major concern once you start to sell, publicise and promote your creative work. You need to protect your ideas and make sure you know what to do if someone does actually copy or makes money from work that is rightfully yours. But IP is not only about protection; it can also be a valuable asset to you business if you manage your rights cleverly and use your rights just as you would real estate to grow your business.
The event is delivered in two modules giving you a basic introduction to IP rights.
Module 1: How not to get ripped off
This module will offer a basic guide to the law, covering the steps any creative professional should take in order to stop somebody else stealing or otherwise using your work without your permission (including copyright, patenting, trade marks, licensing and design rights.) The speaker will be Peter Mason of specialist IP law firm, Briffa. There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions.
This event is for new Own-it members who haven't attended an IP event previously. It's a basic guide to the law.
The event will take place from 6- 9pm, with presentations until 8pm, followed by drinks/networking until 9pm.
Please note this is the first of a two-part module event. Each must be booked individually, however you do not have to take part in both modules. Admission is free, however places are limited.
