How I Learned The Hard Way June 24, 2009

We have a delightful lineup of talented writers for this show. I don't know what's going to happen (if you were there last month for How I Learned About Sex you know that anything can), but rumor has it this month's topic, How I Learned The Hard Way, will involve stories about soap operas, an imaginary boyfriend, and a brothel run by someone named Diamond Lil. Probably won't want to miss it.

CHERYL B is a Brooklyn-based writer and performance poet. Her work appears in several print and online publications, including Word Warriors: 35 Women Leaders in the Spoken Word Revolution (Seal Press), BLOOM and Reactions 5: New Poetry (Pen & Inc.). She has received a fellowship from the New York Foundation for the Arts and has been a resident at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. As a performance poet, Cheryl has appeared at numerous venues in NYC and toured throughout the U.S. and the U.K.

JEFF GORDINIER is the Editor-at-Large at Details magazine and the author of X Saves the World. He has written for a variety of magazines and newspapers, including the New York Times, Esquire, GQ, Elle, Spin, Fortune, the Los Angeles Times, Cookie, Crawdaddy, and Entertainment Weekly. His work has been included in anthologies such as Best American Nonrequired Reading, Best Food Writing, and Best Creative Nonfiction.

SARAH KELLY is a writer, musician, social worker, and a liar. Her prodigious career began in 1983 when she formed The Executioners, a brother/sister team known for their reenactments of popular music videos. In May of 2005 after coming to the realization that she was lazy and that she also had a lot of feelings inside her heart, she began to live her life by the philosophy of "I don't know." She has performed at the WYSIWYG Talent Show and appears in the book Cringe: Teenage Diaries, Journals, Notes, Letters, Poems, and Abandoned Rock Operas. She enjoys popsicles and crosswords.

HUGH RYAN is a freelance writer whose work has appeared in Nerve, The Advocate, NPR's Morning Edition and other places. When not teaching his mother to curse, he can be found dancing with the Rude Mechanical Orchestra or skipping double dutch in Prospect Park. Stalk him online at www.hughryan.org.
