If you have the post-holiday blues, dust off those boots and get ready for some fun.
The Katy subcommittee of the Houston Metro Go Texan Committee will host Sparkles and Spurs, a dinner, dance and auction Saturday, Jan. 31 from 6:30 p.m. to midnight at The Tuscany Villa, 3330 FM1463.
Proceeds will benefit the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. In 2008, $150,000 in scholarships were awarded to Katy ISD students.
“Everything we make goes back to the rodeo for the kids,” event manager Karen Winkler said. “Any high school senior can apply. They don’t have to be in 4-H or AG classes."
Cost for the event is $40 per person.
Dinner for the evening will be provided by Outback Steakhouse with dessert from The Original Marini’s Empanada House. Live music from Al White and the Chaparral Band will be featured.
Live and silent auctions will be held during the evening. Donated items include a barbecue dinner for 50 with a live jazz band, deep sea fishing trip, the 2008 Grand Champion School Art winner from the rodeo, as well as western jewelry, movie passes, gift certificates and much more.
The Katy Go Texan Committee hosts other events during the year to raise scholarship money. Each year, it provides round-trip bus transportation to “Katy night” at the rodeo. This year’s date is Thursday, March 12, and featured entertainer will be Brad Paisley.
A donation of $35 includes the bus ride, rodeo ticket and dinner and beverage on the way to the show. Businesses are also invited to reserve an entire bus for their employees and customers.
Other scheduled events are the annual golf tournament slated Friday, May 1 at The Golf Club at Cinco Ranch, and a barbecue cook-off June 26-27.
