Friends,

Let's have some fun and I don't mean we are measuring it in teaspoons.

I mean cups, gallons and barrels.

A year ago, we saw "Houston Jones," a group of guys about my age (mature but wildly energetic) who play what they call high octane Americana music — bluegrass, jazz, gospel and rock.

After the second song, I turned around to Glenn, a friend of mine who was sitting behind me, and we gave each other exactly the same look — who are these guys? We were eight feet away from some of these best musicians and songwriters we'd ever seen. In addition, they were tight like they'd been together longer than the "Grateful Dead."

We told each other we have to get them to come to Bakersfield and invite our friends. 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb 17 we are doing just that. "Houston Jones" will be playing the Metro Galleries at 1604 19th Street.

Another friend of mine saw them a couple weeks in the Bay Area. He'd never heard of them. This is what he said:

"I'm trying to remember if I've ever seen a better show. They played country, blue grass, new grass, sea faring ballads, gospel, jazz, rock. So much joy. Thanks for pointing me to them."

The $25 ticket includes wine, cheese, fresh bread and appetizers by Seamus Chandler a cooking and social savant who owns Sustenance, downtown's newest hangout.

This is an RSVP event and we're going to limit it to 100 people at the Metro Galleries. If you want to make a reservation, email hbenham@bakersfield.com

See you then.

Regards,

Herb
