Scot Ison, president of Axis Tenant Advisors, was honored with the first Aphasia Community Taskforce (ACT) Award by the Houston Aphasia Recovery Center (HARC) for his continued dedication and involvement with this wellness program. HARC is the premiere resource in Houston for those whose lives are affected by aphasia. Ison was involved in brokering the space for HARC’s first home at 6260 Westpark, Suite 310, and on an even larger second home, at 3701 Briar Park. Both times, Ison donated his commission to HARC, an organization he has become deeply involved in both on a professional and personal level. His father, Don, has aphasia and currently participates in the program.

Aphasia is an acquired communication disorder that impairs a person’s ability to process language, but does not affect intelligence. The Houston Aphasia Recovery Center was conceived in 2008 to address a conspicuous void in Houston's medical services community. As the fourth largest city in the country, Houston has one of the most respected medical centers in the world yet nothing existed for long-term recovery and wellness for people with aphasia, their families and caregivers. Since HARC opened its doors on February 2, 2010, HARC has provided wellness programs, education, advocacy and resources to people with aphasia, their loved ones, and the medical community. HARC creates a safe haven where participants come for therapeutic socialization and long-term recovery. Participants and caregivers come to HARC for support, communication, recreation and camaraderie to fully participate in life. For more, visit their website at www.HARCTX.org.
