Learn about Portland Heights from Thomas Carter’s Donation Land Claim of 1851 through today from AHC volunteers Karen Peinl, Jim Heuer, and Robert Mercer. They will cover Vista Avenue development from the first house constructed in 1884 to the present diverse residential types and styles.
After the lecture, we will reconvene near Vista Avenue for a walking tour (transportation from the AHC not provided) which will reveal architectural styles ranging from Colonial Revival to Art Deco. Two homes from the earliest days of Portland Heights will be open to tourgoers.
Access to this hilly area has been a challenge from the early cow path days -- be prepared for some portions of the walk to be steep. Dress for the weather and wear good walking shoes.
Members $13, General Public $18.
Call (503) 231-7264 for ticket available and more details.
This is a repeat of the Saturday, Sept. 15, lecture and tour.
