House Concert! Walter Strauss, guitarist from California August 6, 2009

Our first Sarasota Folk Club House Concert! Walter Strauss, a California-based guitarist/singer/songwriter, will be performing. He has been described as: A many-layered, multi-textured, one-man folk festival – Maverick Magazine (UK); ...dazzling...guitar-based music with an artistry that’s unparalleled – The Daily Freeman, Kingston, NY. Walter is a wizard of the fingerstyle guitar, a songwriter educated by the wild ghosts of the high desert where he was born. His music is simultaneously fiery and refined. His multi-layered guitarwork will make you swear several instruments are playing at once. With roots in American song and a passion for music from far reaches of the globe, Walter reaches to the heart, whether singing about the vast American West or an ambitious guitar translation of far-flung music of the world. Walter has performed throughout N. America, the UK and Ireland, with musicians ranging from Grammy-nominated kora master Mamadou Diabate, to eclectic songsters The Burns Sisters, and fiddle legend Vassar Clements. Freshly back from a 22-show solo tour in the UK and Ireland, we welcome Walter and his jawdropping fretwork, smokey and intimate vocals, and creative shenanigans!
