Dr. Holt and his scientific colleagues have discovered enormous reserves of frozen water on Mars. Could this water mean life on the planet Mars? What implications does this discovery hold for future voyages to Mars?

Join us for an evening of Mars exploration as the Environmental

Science Institute (UT-Austin) presents "Icy Mysteries of Mars Revealed" by Dr. Jack Holt.

Make sure to come early to experience exhibits and activities
presented by our partners! Free refreshments will be provided. K-12
teachers are also invited to join us for a free workshop (and pizza!)
before the event, tailored to provide background useful for the
classroom. CD-ROMs with lecture materials and lesson plans are
provided free to teachers at these workshops.

Hot Science - Cool Talks is webcast for those who cannot make it in
person at www.esi.utexas.edu.

WHO: Dr. Jack Holt employs airborne geophysical techniques to study ice-covered regions of Earth and Mars. He has led five field expeditions to Antarctica since 1998 to map the ice and features buried beneath the ice. In early 2007, Holt was selected as a Participating Scientist on the SHARAD (Shallow Subsurface Radar) instrument team of the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. SHARAD looks for liquid or frozen water in the upper part of Mars’ crust. This effort to find subsurface water on Mars is important for evaluating the possibility of life on the red planet and plays a role in planning any future human exploration of Mars.

Environmental Science Institute at UT Austin. Prelecture interactive
