Horizon Series - Music and Dance Recital. Naresh Kumta (Flute), Gauri Bhobe (Bharata Natyam). In collaboration with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and supported by Swar Foundation. Naresh Kumta was initially tutored by the vocalist, the late Lakshman Prasad Jaipurwale, from whom he learnt the intricacies of the gayaki-ang and its applications to woodwind instruments. He also sought tutelage from the versatile vocalist and composer, Murli Manohar Shukla, who taught him to retain the melodiousness of the bandish in his renditions. Having consistently striven to imbibe the best from various accomplished artistes like Bale Khan of Dharwad, Kumta combines feeling and an incisive awareness of rhythm in his music. Gauri Bhobe is a young performer, a student of Deepak Mazumdar, who has been the recipient of the Government of India National Scholarship in dance and the Sringar Mani Title from Sur Sringar Samsad. Running dance classes since 2000, Gauri Bhobe performs regularly at the Siddhi Vinayak temple, Mumbai; has danced in Hema Malini's ballet, Geet Govind, in Delhi, Mathura and Imphal; has participated in the Nadhanjali, Rasika Ranjani and Shivali Festivals, Mumbai, and at the Kala Ghoda festival in 2008.
