New Orleans Voodoo and Rootwork consist of a large body of African folkloric practices and beliefs with a considerable admixture of American Indian botanical knowledge as well as European folklore and Haitian Vodou. Hoodoo is considered more generalized and implies a more simple version of these practices.
This first lesson will include a look into a variety of basic works, as well as candle magic and a full guide to making and caring for a traditional New Orleans Style Voodoo Doll. This is an excellent and thorough introduction to natural magic!
Topics include:
- The Ethics of Rootwork,
- Protection and Hexbreaking
- Magical Self-defence
- Performing rub-downs
- Setting Lights
- Doll Magic
- Gris Gris and MoJo bags
This level also teaches how to clean away psychic drudge in your environment, how to clean the previous tenant's vibrations out of your house or apartment, how to cleanse your own aura. Most of the spells presented can be done with simple ingredients found in one's kitchen and are based on Mystical Catholic-style works and contain wisdom from African and African based traditions. We will also cover candle colours for every purpose, and working with the psalms.
If time and weather permit, we will also be doing some work outdoors.
