After returning from the first leg of their Fall 2009 tour, Honey Island Swamp Band is playing their only local November show this coming Friday at the Blue Nile down on Frenchmen St. in the Marigny. Saxophonist extraordinaire Jimmy Carpenter will be sitting in with the band for the entire show, and a few other special guests are expected too. This show will feature favorites from their 2009 CD release, "Wishing Well", as well as some fresh songs being readied to record for their upcoming 2010 album.
Honey Island Swamp Band was formed in the wake of the tragedy that was Hurricane Katrina, as four veteran New Orleans musicians found themselves stranded in San Francisco in August of 2005. After a chance encounter found all 4 of them at the SF roots-rock club Boom Boom Room, they decided they'd better get some gigs lined up to help make it through the tough times. That's how their "Americana on the Bayou" sound was born, anchored around the timeless songs written by Aaron Wilkinson (mandolin, guitar, vocals) and Chris Mule' (guitar, resonator, vocals), and highlighted by Wilkinson's voice, Mule's ripping guitar leads, and the Louisiana stomp rhythm section of Sam Price (bass) and Garland Paul (drums).
Don't miss the next break-out band from New Orleans....catch them while they are still playing the intimate clubs. You'll be able to tell your friends "I saw them back when...."
