HomelessConnectCamp is a platform for the local tech community, city officials and community volunteers to have a conversation about challenges faced in our neighborhoods and how technology can help bring awareness to existing programs.
HomelessConnectCamp takes place in unison with Project Homeless Connect, on the same time/date/place that PHC takes place: February 11th.
What is Project Homeless Connect?
PHC is an initiative that was created by San Francisco's Mayor Gavin Newsom, in close collaboration with the Department of Health, the Human Service Agency, other government agencies, the private sector and community non-profit and individuals. Every other month over 1000 community volunteers partner with city government, non-profits and the private sector to provide a one-stop shop of health and human services for homeless San Franciscans.
Today, PHC is emulated in 200 cities across the United States as well as Canada, Puerto Rico and Australia. Services include medical, mental health, substance abuse, housing, dental, SSI benefits, legal counseling, eyeglasses, California ID, food, voicemail, employment counseling and job placement, wheelchair repair and more. As of December 2008, 19,600 volunteers have provided services to more than 26,000 homeless and poor San Franciscans.
