Far and away Humperdinck's most famous work, 'Hansel and Gretel' was first performed in 1893, in a Christmas production in Weimar conducted by composer Richard Strauss. It has been a Conservatory tradition for over a decade, with performances in schools as well as at its present and former homes. The opera's original three acts have been distilled into a single, one-hour act geared specifically toward younger audience members, but which still retains all the magic and melody of the complete opera. A special post-performance party benefitting the Conservatory's Preparatory Division Scholarship Fund will take place after the 4pm performance in the Osher Salon, featuring snacks and activities for children and refreshments for adults. Tickets for the benefit are $50 for children, $75 for adults.
